Batistuta Reflects on Maradona's Death, Hopes for Messi

Former Argentina striker Gabriel Batistuta commented on the death of football icon Diego Maradona, stating that Maradona died "like a dog" and lamenting that he passed away alone. Batistuta noted that Maradona's family became wealthy but failed to support him adequately during his struggles.

He expressed hope that Lionel Messi, the current captain of Argentina, does not experience a similar fate. In a recent interview, Batistuta referenced comments made by Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand regarding Maradona's family not keeping track of him during his teenage years.

He emphasized that Maradona was already famous at a young age, and while his family was not wealthy, they should have provided better support. Batistuta stated, "I don’t blame anybody," and reflected on the mistakes made, highlighting the shame that a great person like Maradona died alone.

Maradona passed away due to cardiac arrest at home in November 2020.
