New Trial for Diego Maradona's Death Begins in Argentina

A new trial concerning the death of football legend Diego Maradona has begun in San Isidro, Argentina, involving a seven-member medical team charged with negligent homicide. This trial follows a mistrial declared nearly a year prior when three judges resigned after a video surfaced, breaching judicial rules.

The retrial will require both prosecutors and defense lawyers to reassess their strategies, including the presentation of photographs, videos, audio recordings, and forensic evidence. The medical team includes psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, psychologist Carlo Ngel D'Az, physician Nanci Edith Forlini, nurse Ricardo Almir, head nurse Mariano Ariel Perroni, and physician Pedro Pablo Di Spagna.

Nurse Dahiana Madrid will face a separate jury trial. Prosecutors argue that the medical professionals violated treatment protocols during Maradona's recovery from surgery, while the defense contends that his death was inevitable due to long-standing health issues, including cocaine and alcohol addiction.

The initial investigation by a medical board concluded that the team acted inappropriately and recklessly.
