Petrol Prices Rise to N1,300 Amid Dangote Refinery Increase

Petrol prices in Nigeria have risen to between N1,250 and N1,300 per litre, following a price increase by Dangote Petroleum Refinery on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The refinery raised its price from N1,185 to N1,200 per litre, just five days after a previous increase from N1,165 to N1,185 per litre.

Chinedu Ukadike, the National Publicity Secretary of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), stated that the frequent price adjustments create uncertainty for marketers, complicating their business planning amid fluctuating international oil prices, government policies, and exchange rate movements. Ukadike noted that while independent marketers would continue to operate, the unpredictability of petrol prices poses challenges for both marketers and consumers.

Additionally, dealers from the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria expressed concerns about the financial impact of sudden price increases on their operations.
