Family Defends Mary Habila, Seeks Body Release for Burial

Mary Habila, a 26-year-old nurse, was found dead on June 27 at the staff chalet of the Ministry of Work in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area, Ebonyi State. Her family, represented by lawyer Kail Yusuf, has publicly defended her character against allegations of being a "runs girl." They have appealed to Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu for the immediate release of her body for burial, which has been held for nearly three weeks due to police procedures.

The family insists they have complied with all requirements for the release but have not received approval. They have also rejected requests for an autopsy on cultural grounds, despite the Ebonyi State Police Command stating that a post-mortem examination is necessary to determine the cause of death.

Habila's father, Tanko Habila, made an emotional appeal for the release of his daughter's remains, emphasizing the family's distress over the prolonged process.
