Father of Nurse Mary Habila Rejects Autopsy for Burial

Tanko Habila, the father of 26-year-old Mary Habila, has formally rejected an autopsy request regarding his daughter's death, seeking her body for burial. He filed an affidavit in the Ebonyi State High Court, asserting that the family does not suspect foul play and wishes to proceed with burial without further investigations.

Mary Habila was a nurse at the Federal Ministry of Works and had been serving in Abuja. She died on June 27, 2026, in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area.

The Ebonyi State Police Command is continuing its investigation, with spokesperson Joshua Ukandu stating that preliminary findings indicated that Habila's colleagues identified Anita Baaki as part of the medical team accompanying her. The police have arranged for a pathologist to conduct a post-mortem examination, pending family consent.

The family insists on the release of Mary Habila's body for burial without delay, emphasizing that their decision was made voluntarily and without external pressure.
