Olubadan Warns Masquerades Against Violence at Festival

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, issued a warning to masquerades to eschew violence during the Egungun festival, which is set to begin on Monday in Ibadan, Oyo State. In a statement released by his chief spokesman, Adeola Oloko, Ladoja emphasized that any violent conduct during the festival would be subject to legal punishment.

He described the Egungun festival as an annual ritual that celebrates the culture and traditions of the people, fostering social cohesion and family unity. The Olubadan insisted that the festival should not be used as a means to settle old scores or engage in retaliatory attacks.

He assured that necessary arrangements would be made to ensure a hitch-free celebration and urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to maintain a peaceful atmosphere during the festivities.
