Rivers APC Faces Mass Defection Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) may experience a mass defection before the 2027 general elections, driven by internal disputes and the disqualification of several aspirants during a recent screening exercise. Tensions have escalated, particularly following Senator Ipialibo Banigo's public support for a disqualified candidate, Obuama, in the Degema Local Government Area.

Banigo, a former deputy governor under Nyesom Wike, expressed dissatisfaction with the screening process and urged the APC national leadership to intervene. Dr.

Legborsi Yamaabana, another disqualified aspirant for the Rivers State House of Assembly, warned that the disqualifications could lead to significant political consequences and affect future aspirations within the APC. He indicated that grassroots support is being consulted and hinted at a possible political "tsunami" ahead of the elections.

The APC leadership has called for calm among its members, emphasizing the need for unity and addressing grievances to ensure electoral success in the upcoming elections.
