Pochettino Questions Fairness After City's Financial Verdict

Mauricio Pochettino, the former manager of Tottenham and Chelsea, expressed concerns regarding the fairness of English football following reports that Manchester City was found guilty of 114 out of 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules between 2009 and 2018. Pochettino questioned, “Where were the controls?” and noted the strict financial restrictions Tottenham faced during his tenure, contrasting it with City’s alleged violations.

He stated, “Many clubs followed the rules and some didn’t,” and emphasized that any punishment imposed would not reverse the past. Pochettino argued that the situation transcends fines or points deductions, as the alleged breaches could have influenced the competitive landscape of the league.

He remarked, “If it’s true all of the 114 rules that were broken, we’ve lived through a period of deception.” Manchester City has denied wrongdoing and plans to appeal the verdict, meaning the Premier League's process is subject to further legal proceedings.
