Memphis Depay Faces Suspension for Phone Use on Bench

Memphis Depay, a 32-year-old forward for Corinthians, is facing a possible suspension of up to six matches after being caught on camera using his mobile phone while on the bench during a 1-1 draw against Flamengo. The incident occurred on Sunday and was reported by Brazilian outlet UOL.

A member of the Corinthians coaching staff was seen approaching Depay to instruct him to put the phone away. The Brazilian Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) has charged Depay under Article 258 of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice, which punishes conduct deemed contrary to sports ethics.

If found guilty, Depay could face a suspension ranging from one to six games. He was substituted in the 22nd minute of the match due to a reported thigh injury.

Depay had previously been managing a knee problem and was not expected to feature in the Netherlands' friendly matches against Norway and Ecuador, as stated by national team manager Ronald Koeman.
