Nigerian Psychiatrist Decries Non-Implementation of Mental Health Act Due to Funding Issues

Consultant Psychiatrist Dr. Vincent Udenzi expressed concerns over the non-implementation of the Mental Health Act in Nigeria, attributing the delay to budgetary constraints.

He emphasized the shortage of psychiatrists and psychologists in the country, especially in regions like Borno and the North East affected by complex traumas. Udenzi stressed the urgent need for training programs to address mental health issues, including trauma among various populations.

He called for a comprehensive approach involving government interventions, justice, and community support.
