Benue Government Challenges Peter Obi on Thugs Incident

The Benue State Government has called on Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), to name the government official purportedly responsible for obstructing his visit to Yelewata community. Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia, stated that the government was prepared to collaborate with the police to investigate the incident and prosecute anyone found guilty.

Kula made these remarks during an appearance on Arise TV’s The Morning Show, following allegations that suspected thugs prevented Obi and his entourage from proceeding during his visit to Benue on Tuesday. He emphasized that the government had no prior knowledge of the obstruction and only learned of it after images circulated online.

Kula challenged Obi's camp to provide evidence against the alleged aide and insisted that the police commissioner should ensure accountability. He also addressed the broader issue of insecurity in Benue, acknowledging that while it is a widespread problem, the state is striving for relative peace.
