Microsoft Advocates for Africa's Digital Economy Growth

Microsoft, represented by Nony Ujam, Director of Government Affairs for Microsoft West Africa, asserts that the digital economy is essential for driving inclusive growth and enhancing Africa's global competitiveness. Ujam stresses the importance of digitizing governance across African countries to overcome existing analog bottlenecks that hinder economic activities.

She notes that Africa's digital economy is projected to grow from $115 billion in 2020 to $250 billion by 2030, with Nigeria poised to lead this growth due to its 154 million internet users and a dynamic innovation ecosystem. Ujam calls for the establishment of a unified legal framework to support digital transformation, citing Nigeria's introduction of the National Digital Economy E-Government Bill 2024 as a significant step.

She also references successful examples from Estonia and India, where digitization has improved public administration and citizen satisfaction. Ujam emphasizes that the strength of public sector infrastructure is crucial for sustaining momentum in the digital economy.
