Military Force Insufficient to Tackle Northern Insecurity

The Sardauna Foundation, directed by Engr Dr. Abubakar Gambo Umar, stated that military force alone cannot effectively address the insecurity challenges in Northern Nigeria.

During the foundation's monthly online mentorship program, Umar highlighted the need for a shift from purely kinetic operations to intelligence-led security strategies. He pointed out that reliance on military force without grassroots intelligence limits the success of security operations.

The foundation called for collaboration between government security agencies and traditional rulers to build sustainable security frameworks capable of identifying threats and maintaining peace. Umar noted the importance of integrating local intelligence systems with formal security operations.

Engr Dr. Umar Buba Bindir, a technology expert, identified major weaknesses in Nigeria's security architecture, including the disconnect between formal security agencies and local intelligence structures.

The foundation urged Northern governors and local government authorities to adopt a political traditional partnership model, similar to one successfully implemented in Adamawa State from 2015 to 2019, to enhance intelligence gathering and rapid response mechanisms.
