Minister Praises Prof. Ekele's Contributions to Healthcare

On Saturday in Abuja, Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, Poverty Reduction, Yusuf Sununu, praised Prof. Bissallah Ekele for his exemplary mentorship and significant contributions to Nigeria's medical profession during a send-off dinner honoring Ekele, the former Chief Medical Director of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH). Sununu described Ekele as a humble and dedicated leader whose impact over the years has been profound.

He expressed gratitude for Ekele's family support and emphasized the importance of mentorship in the medical field. Ekele remains active in the medical sector during his sabbatical and is engaged with the National Universities Commission to reform medical curricula to meet Nigeria's healthcare needs.

The minister addressed ongoing issues in the health sector, including the need for better implementation of agreements with health unions. Prof. Bob Ukonu and Dr. Ikechukwu Odikpo also commended Ekele for his leadership and the advancements made during his tenure, particularly in reducing patient mortality rates during the COVID-19 pandemic.
