Youth Minister Urges Skills Development for Nigeria's Future

On Monday in Abuja, Ayodele Olawande, the Minister of Youth Development, addressed over 600 young Nigerians at the opening of the 2026 Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA), organized by Rotary International District 9127. He encouraged youths to seize emerging opportunities and acquire relevant skills, urging them to view themselves as partners in national development rather than mere beneficiaries of government programs.

Olawande stated that the country is fostering an environment conducive for youth to thrive and urged those unable to attend in person to utilize digital platforms, particularly the Nigerian Youth Academy. He expressed his vision of cultivating young Nigerians who are prepared and trusted to contribute meaningfully to the nation.

Olawande called for a shift in focus from what the government can provide to what youths can build in collaboration with the government, identifying entrepreneurship, innovation, agriculture, and community leadership as key areas for youth engagement. He concluded by stating that true leadership begins with responsibility and service, not just titles.
