Miva Open University Graduates 1,212 Students in Lagos

Miva Open University held its maiden convocation in Lagos, graduating a total of 1,212 students, which included 970 postgraduate and 242 undergraduate students. Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, stressed the necessity of access to quality education as a fundamental right rather than a privilege reserved for the wealthy.

He highlighted that education should facilitate personal development and lifelong improvement, not merely serve as a means to an end. Sanusi shared his own educational journey, noting his studies in economics at Ahmadu Bello University and Sharia Islamic Studies in Sudan, culminating in a PhD.

He addressed the challenges faced by young Nigerians, particularly women, in accessing higher education due to financial and cultural barriers. Sanusi also discussed the role of technology in education, advocating for the use of artificial intelligence to enhance learning.

Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu attended the ceremony, commending the university's efforts to democratize access to quality education.
