Military Airstrike in Zamfara Market Kills Over 72

On Sunday, a military airstrike targeted Tumfa Market in Zurmi LGA, Zamfara State, resulting in the deaths of at least 72 individuals, according to reports. Amnesty International has suggested that the actual death toll could be as high as 100.

The airstrike was part of ongoing operations by the Nigerian Army, which is committed to addressing insecurity in the region. Lt.

Gen. Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff, reaffirmed the military's dedication to defending Nigeria's constitution and tackling insecurity.

The Nigerian Army denied reports of civilian casualties, stating that the operation was aimed at bandits who had previously killed a young girl selling millet porridge at the market. Survivors of the attack were evacuated to hospitals, with some receiving treatment for severe injuries.

The Nigerian Air Force's operations have faced scrutiny, particularly following an incident in Niger State where an airstrike reportedly killed 13 civilians. The military has pledged to investigate these incidents.
