Mixta Africa Supports FG Housing Reforms for Buyer Protection

Mixta Africa has expressed support for the Federal Government's proposed reforms intended to strengthen regulation, enhance buyer protection, and boost confidence in Nigeria's housing sector. The reforms include mandatory licensing for developers and estate agents, escrow protection for buyers' funds, and the establishment of a National Housing Industry Regulatory Commission.

Tola Akinsulire, Chief Commercial Officer of Mixta Africa, emphasized the importance of independent verification of construction milestones before the release of funds from escrow accounts. The company advocates for a framework that ensures buyer protection while allowing credible developers access to appropriately structured construction finance.

Akinsulire noted that historically, off-plan payments have been crucial for funding housing projects, and if these funds become more restricted, alternative financing sources will be necessary. Mixta Africa calls for ongoing collaboration among government, financial institutions, developers, and professional bodies to create enforceable standards that will lead to a more transparent and sustainable housing sector.
