UNIJOS Alumni Demand Justice for Mob Killing of Graduate

The University of Jos Alumni Association has demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged mob killing of its member, Ibrahim Mbaya. The incident occurred on Sunday at an off-campus apartment in the City of David area along Ring Road in Jos, Plateau State.

The Plateau State Police Command confirmed that three suspects—Rinji Daniel Fwanji, Emmanuel Newyear, and Nensemka Fwanji—were arrested in connection with the alleged culpable homicide. Mbaya, a Jos-based model, had attended a social event and stayed overnight at a friend's apartment due to the late hour.

The following morning, he was accused of stealing an iPhone that was reported missing. After initially leaving, he returned to the apartment to explain himself but was confronted by his friend and a group of youths who assaulted him for several hours.

Witnesses reported that he was struck with sticks and other objects until he lost consciousness. A nurse later confirmed his death.

One suspect was seen in a viral video allegedly striking Mbaya with a large wooden plank.
