NANS Demands Justice for UniJos Student Ibrahim Mbaye

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for justice following the death of Ibrahim Mbaye, a student at the University of Jos (UniJos), who was reportedly beaten to death by a mob over allegations of stealing an iPhone. NANS condemned the incident as a shocking act of jungle justice and demanded the immediate prosecution of all involved, emphasizing that no theft allegation justifies extrajudicial punishment.

In a statement from its National President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, the association described Mbaye's death as a severe violation of human rights and a reminder of the dangers of mob justice. Preliminary reports suggest that Mbaye was assaulted, publicly humiliated, and locked in a room without the allegedly stolen phone being recovered.

NANS welcomed the arrest of some suspects by security agencies and urged a thorough investigation by the Plateau State Police Command. The association expressed condolences to Mbaye's family and friends, reaffirming its commitment to pursuing justice and urging Nigerians to reject jungle justice.
