ActionAid Nigeria Demands Justice for UniJos Student's Death

ActionAid Nigeria condemned the alleged torture and killing of 25-year-old Ibrahim Mbaya, a University of Jos student, following accusations of mobile phone theft. The organization described the incident as a serious violation of human rights and the rule of law.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Dr. Andrew Mamedu, ActionAid Nigeria’s Country Director, emphasized that no allegation should lead to torture or unlawful death, asserting that every accused individual deserves dignity and due process.

The organization expressed concern over the safety of students living off-campus and questioned the lack of intervention during Mbaya's alleged torture. ActionAid Nigeria acknowledged the arrest of four suspects by the Plateau State Police Command and called for a thorough investigation and prosecution of all involved.

They urged for regular updates to Mbaya's family and support throughout the judicial process. The organization also called for reforms to prevent similar incidents and to restore public confidence in Nigeria's security institutions, extending condolences to Mbaya's family and the University of Jos community.
