Suspect Admits to Killing UNIJOS Graduate Ibrahim Mbaya

Emmanuel Newyear, 30, the main suspect in the murder of Ibrahim Pilasar Mbaya, a Political Science graduate from the University of Jos, admitted to striking Mbaya three times with a wooden plank during police interrogations. The incident occurred after Mbaya was accused of stealing an iPhone 12 belonging to Rinji Daniel Fwanji, 25.

Newyear claimed he initially slapped Mbaya and then used the plank because he believed Mbaya was withholding information about the missing phone. Despite searching multiple locations mentioned by Mbaya, the phone was not found.

Newyear stated he instructed others not to assault Mbaya before leaving, but upon returning, he found Mbaya severely injured. Witnesses, including Nensemka Fwanji, confirmed the assault and noted that Mbaya was taken to the hospital after sustaining serious injuries.

The case has triggered widespread outrage across Nigeria, highlighting issues of violence and mob justice.
