National Taekwondo Championship Launches in Lagos on Sept 17

The inaugural Michael Opeyemi Bamidele National Taekwondo Championship is set to begin on September 17 in Lagos. This tournament is sponsored by Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, who is the current Senate Leader and a former Commissioner for Sports and Information and Strategy in Lagos State.

Bamidele views sports as a means of unifying people and has a history of supporting various sporting events. Tayo Popoola, the President of the Taekwondo Federation of Nigeria, expressed enthusiasm for the competition, emphasizing its importance in complementing government efforts in sports development.

He noted that the championship is timely as Nigeria prepares for the upcoming African Games and the Olympic Games. The event, themed 'Unity', is open to states, clubs, and schools across the country, with participation required in team format.

Popoola mentioned positive responses from various regions and assured that the federation is committed to ensuring a smooth event.
