Oba Oyero Critiques Palace Construction on Disputed Land

Oba Isiaka Oyero of Ketu in Kosofe Local Government Area, Lagos State, has publicly condemned the construction of a palace on disputed land, alleging that the Ikosi Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA) is proceeding with the project despite ongoing litigation. The land in question, historically owned by the Balogun Oyero family, has been the subject of legal disputes since 2019 when the LCDA allegedly encroached upon it to build public facilities without compensation.

Oba Oyero stated that the Nigerian Postal Service donated the land in 1980 for the Ketu post office, and the family has historically maintained ownership. He warned that the construction could trigger community unrest and described the actions as a breach of legal process.

The monarch, alongside community leaders, has filed for an interlocutory injunction to halt further construction. The situation escalated in 2022 when eviction notices were issued, prompting further legal action.

The local council has denied any wrongdoing.
