Ondo Assembly Speaker Faces Criticism Over Inactivity

The Ondo State House of Assembly is facing a leadership crisis as lawmakers have raised concerns about Speaker Hon. Olamide Oladiji's management.

They allege that the Assembly has conducted only four plenary sittings in the past seven months, which they claim has hindered legislative business and oversight functions. Lawmakers argue that the Speaker avoids convening sessions during times of tension and has delayed meetings, particularly when disagreements arise among members.

They noted that the Assembly has remained inactive for weeks, even when the Speaker traveled abroad without calling meetings. The lawmakers expressed frustration over the lack of activity, especially towards the end of last year when legislative meetings were scarce.

A legal expert referenced Section 104 of the 1999 Constitution, which mandates that a State House of Assembly must sit for at least 181 days in a year, emphasizing the importance of regular meetings for effective governance.
