Ondo Assembly Demands Speaker's Resignation Amid Impeachment

Hon Oltunji Fabiyi, spokesperson for the Ondo State House of Assembly, announced on Monday that the assembly will not conduct plenary sessions until Speaker Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji resigns. Fabiyi emphasized that the majority of lawmakers support Oladiji's impeachment, which is driven by allegations of his diversion of N44 million intended for the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC).

The lawmakers accused Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of attempting to thwart the impeachment process by allegedly persuading them to withdraw their support. Fabiyi stated that all lawmakers have signed the impeachment notice against Oladiji, asserting that the decision reflects the collective resolution of the House.

He challenged Governor Aiyedatiwa to clarify his interest in retaining the Speaker, suggesting that some lawmakers have been pressured by government officials to abandon the impeachment. Fabiyi reiterated that the lawmakers have nothing against the governor but have lost confidence in the current leadership of the House.
