SAN Urges Tinubu to Prevent Reprisal Attacks in Benue

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Professor Sebastin Hon, has addressed a letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu concerning the murder of Alhaji Ardo Risku Muhammad, the chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Benue State. The letter, dated June 29, 2026, emphasizes the need for a swift and transparent investigation into the murder, as fears of reprisal attacks against innocent citizens of Fulani origin in Benue State grow.

The letter warns that threats of retaliation are proliferating on social media, which could challenge the sovereignty of the Nigerian government. Professor Hon urges the government to act quickly to prevent mass violence and to ensure that justice is served based on evidence rather than suspicion.

He appeals for restraint among the Fulani community, highlighting that revenge will not bring back the deceased nor achieve true justice. The letter calls for patience and cooperation with security agencies to investigate the crime thoroughly.
