Muslim council bans wedding parties in Taraba

The Muslim Council in Taraba State has announced a ban on wedding parties in Jalingo town. The decision was made in collaboration with Imams and the traditional ruler, and specifically targets the popular event known as "Kauyawa" or "Ajo" parties, where youth dress in torn clothes and dance late into the night.

The Chief Imam of Mayo Gwoi Jummat Mosque in Jalingo, Imam Tajudeen Nuhu, conveyed the ruling on behalf of the council, stating that it is forbidden for households to hold such parties. The council warned that any Muslim who disobeys the ban or conducts a marriage contract (Nikah) or funeral prayer (Salat) at home will face disciplinary action, including removal from their position.

The ruling aims to promote discipline and order within the Muslim community, and Muslims in Jalingo are urged to strictly abide by the new directive.
