Mutfwang Halts Illegal Hisba Activities in Plateau State

Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang of Plateau State has directed security agencies to immediately cease the activities of a group reportedly functioning as Hisba in parts of Jos North local government area. He described these activities as illegal and unauthorized, following reports of intimidation, harassment, and extortion of residents by the group.

In a statement released on Monday by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Gyang Bere, Mutfwang warned that individuals involved must stop their actions or face arrest and prosecution under Nigerian law. He asserted that Plateau State operates under one constitution and legal system, and no group can assume governmental powers without legal authority.

The governor instructed security agencies to identify and investigate those involved, with a focus on gathering intelligence to protect residents from unlawful coercion. Mutfwang clarified that the directive is not aimed at any specific religion or ethnic group, emphasizing the government's commitment to equal protection for all citizens.
