Mutfwang's Apology to Igbo People Praised by IUCA

The Izu Umunna Cultural Association (IUCA), an Igbo socio-cultural organization, expressed support for Plateau State Governor Barrister Caleb Mutfwang following his apology to the Igbo people for the experiences of the Nigerian civil war. During a visit from Igbo leaders from the 17 local government areas of Plateau State, Mutfwang urged the Igbo community to move past the painful events of the civil war and actively engage in Nigeria's development.

He stated, “I apologise to the Igbos so that we can put the past behind us and continue to foster unity.” The IUCA, in a statement signed by President Ichie Jerry Egede and Secretary Mazi Jude Owuamanam, commended Mutfwang's apology as timely and courageous, noting that it was unprecedented for a leader to accept blame for the civil war. The apology has received mixed reactions, with some criticizing Mutfwang for allegedly attributing the civil war's burden to Plateau's people, while others, including the Hausa community, called for their own apology regarding indigene status issues.
