IUCA Applauds Mutfwang's Apology to Igbo Community

The Izu Umunna Cultural Association (IUCA) commended Plateau State Governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang for his recent apology to the Igbo community concerning the Nigerian Civil War, labeling the gesture as courageous, healing, and timely.

During a visit from Igbo leaders across Plateau State's 17 local government areas, Mutfwang urged the Igbo to move past historical grievances and contribute positively to Nigeria's development. He described the Civil War as a tragic manipulation of citizens and emphasized the need to close that chapter.

However, his remarks faced criticism from some Plateau stakeholders, including former Sports Minister Solomon Dalung and former Commissioner for Information Dan Manjang, who felt the governor unfairly blamed Plateau people. The Hausa community also sought a similar apology regarding indigene-ship issues.

IUCA, in a statement signed by President Ichie Jerry Egede and Secretary Mazi Jude Owuamanam, asserted that Mutfwang's apology was a significant step towards reconciliation, especially given the Middle Belt's role in the war. They encouraged peaceful relations and support for government initiatives among the Igbo in Plateau State.
