NaijAidUK and Health Aid Charity Train Disabled in First Aid

NaijAidUK and Health Aid Charity have initiated Project ACT, an inclusive first aid training program aimed at equipping hearing and speech-impaired individuals with essential emergency response skills. The program took place in Ilorin, Kwara State, and covered critical topics such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), choking management, wound care, and the management of common medical emergencies.

Patricia Adetuase, the Project Lead, emphasized the importance of inclusivity in first aid education, noting that many individuals with hearing and speech impairments are often excluded from such training. The initiative was inspired by a NaijAidUK train-the-trainer course held in October 2024.

To facilitate effective learning, sign language interpreters were present, and alternative communication methods were introduced. The training was conducted by a five-member team who had previously completed the NaijAidUK course and engaged in community outreach.

Participants received practical instruction on emergency scene assessment and various first aid techniques, ensuring they are better prepared for emergencies.
