NaijAidUK, Health Aid Charity Train Hearing-Impaired in First Aid

On October 24, 2024, NaijAidUK and Health Aid Charity conducted an inclusive first aid training program, Project ACT, in Ilorin, Kwara State, aimed at equipping hearing and speech-impaired individuals with life-saving emergency response skills. The training covered critical areas such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), choking management, wound care, burns treatment, and the management of common medical emergencies.

Patricia Adetuase, the Project Lead, stated that the initiative seeks to ensure that individuals with hearing and speech impairments are included in first aid education. The program was inspired by a NaijAidUK train-the-trainer course held in October 2024, which encouraged participants to develop community projects for underserved groups.

The training utilized sign language interpreters and alternative communication methods to facilitate effective participation. The five-member project ACT team, all trained by NaijAidUK, delivered the sessions, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and empowerment in accessing life-saving knowledge.
