NANS Threatens Protest Over Taraba Bridge Collapse Delay

The Taraba State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) expressed dissatisfaction over the prolonged delay in the construction of the Namnai Bridge in Gassol Local Government, which collapsed in August 2024 following heavy rainfall. In a press statement issued on Monday, NANS Chairman Bolyo Saleh described the situation as disheartening, noting the lack of visible progress on the project despite its strategic importance for residents, particularly students.

The absence of the bridge poses serious safety risks, disrupts academic activities, and hinders socio-economic development in the community. NANS criticized the lack of interim solutions and pointed out that no temporary measures have been implemented, exacerbating the hardships faced by road users.

The group called on the North East Development Commission (NEDC) and relevant government agencies to provide clear explanations regarding the delays and demanded a definitive timeline for the commencement and completion of the bridge. NANS emphasized that the ongoing situation reflects a lack of commitment to the welfare of the people, especially students, and warned that failure to address these concerns promptly could lead to legal action.
