NANS to Visit UNIOSUN After Student's Death Raises Concerns

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) announced a visit to the Osun State University (UNIOSUN) on Monday, June 29, 2026, in response to the death of final-year student Grace Osunlakin, a 400-level student in Criminology and Security Studies. This incident has sparked protests and raised broader concerns regarding student welfare and healthcare services at the university.

NANS South West Zone Coordinator Adeyemo Josiah stated that the association is engaging with university management following assurances from the Vice Chancellor that an internal investigation would commence. The university temporarily closed the Ifetedo campus due to the unrest.

Reports indicate that students are being asked to vacate the campus quickly, raising concerns about their safety and transport challenges. NANS aims to uncover issues related to healthcare delivery and emergency response systems, emphasizing that student welfare should not be treated as an afterthought.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke expressed deep sorrow over Osunlakin's death and called for a comprehensive review of healthcare services at the university.
