NANS Urges Akwa Ibom To Address Education, Student Welfare Concerns

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged the Akwa Ibom State Government to address pressing issues in education and student welfare in tertiary institutions in the state. During a press conference on August 11, 2025, NANS representatives commended Governor Umo Eno for his efforts in the education sector but highlighted the need to resolve key gaps affecting learners.

The association praised initiatives such as the establishment of model primary schools, a bursary scheme, and sponsorship of students for education exchange programs. However, NANS called for the inclusion of student leaders in the bursary payment committee and the establishment of a scholarship scheme to complement existing programs.

They also urged the government to improve facilities in tertiary institutions and hold town square meetings with students. NANS announced plans to lead a million student solidarity walk to the Government House on August 19, 2025, to present their demands directly to Governor Eno.
