Kogi Senator Advocates for Better Healthcare Worker Welfare

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, called for enhanced working conditions, remuneration, and welfare packages for healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and midwives. She made this appeal during the “Unfinished” event organized by Ward-C in collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission.

Akpoti-Uduaghan stressed that addressing Nigeria's maternal mortality crisis requires examining the conditions faced by women, children, and healthcare workers. She highlighted the need for adequate remuneration, functional medical equipment, reliable electricity, and conducive working environments for healthcare workers, particularly in underserved rural communities.

The senator pointed out that improved conditions of service would motivate healthcare professionals to remain committed to their roles. She raised concerns about the sustainability of medical equipment in areas with unreliable electricity and questioned the availability of qualified personnel to operate such equipment.

Akpoti-Uduaghan advocated for a holistic approach to healthcare, linking medical personnel, infrastructure, and professional welfare as interconnected components of the health system.
