Nathan Thomas Becomes Youngest Male Professor at 18

Nathan Thomas was officially recognized by Guinness World Records on July 27, 2026, as the youngest male professor at the age of 18 years and 346 days, after joining the faculty of Miami Dade College. He surpassed the previous record held by Colin Maclaurin, who became a professor at Marischal College in Scotland at the age of 19 in 1717.

Thomas began his academic journey at an unusually early age, enrolling at Miami Dade College as a dual-enrolled student at 10 years old. He later transferred to Florida International University at 14, where he completed both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering by the age of 18, graduating with honors in both programs.

His appointment as a professor occurred 16 days earlier than Alia Sabur, the youngest female professor, who set her record in 2008 at 18 years and 362 days. In addition to teaching, Thomas is involved in academic research and is a co-author on a research project at Miami Dade College’s Kendall Campus.
