National Assembly Report Advocates for Women's Representation

The National Assembly's gender report, presented by Glori Ohagwu in Abuja, outlines significant advancements in women's political representation, particularly through the proposed special seat bill and the establishment of a gender desk within the House of Representatives. Yesid Olasimbo, the Speaker's Special Assistant on Women Affairs, emphasized the need for a multi-stakeholder platform to promote women's political inclusion.

The report noted milestones such as the open parliament initiative and high-level dialogues on women, peace, and security. European Union Ambassador Gautier Mignot described the special seat bill as a crucial opportunity for Nigeria to enhance its democratic credentials.

Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Omosed Igbinedion, expressed her commitment to advocating for greater representation of women in public office.

The report also highlighted the support from various stakeholders, including Kaduna State Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Balarab and River State Deputy Governor Prof.

Ngozi Odu, who called for collective support for the bill, which they believe will define the legacy of the 10th National Assembly.
