FG Extends Deadline for National Policing Bill Submissions

The Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill, established by President Bola Tinubu, has announced an extension of the deadline for submitting memoranda and position papers regarding the proposed legislation by eight days. The new deadline is set for 5:00 p.m.

West Africa Time (WAT) on Friday, August 21, 2026, instead of the original date of August 13, 2026. This extension, communicated by Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President and Chairman of the Working Group, aims to provide stakeholders with additional time for thorough preparation and to ensure comprehensive contributions from various sectors.

The proposed National Policing Bill seeks to establish a framework for effective policing in Nigeria, addressing operational, administrative, institutional, and funding aspects while ensuring accountability and the protection of citizens' rights. Gbajabiamila emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement in developing a responsive policing framework that meets Nigeria's evolving security needs.
