Deadline Extended for National Policing Bill Submissions

The Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill, chaired by Femi Gbajabiamila, has announced an extension for the submission of memoranda and position papers regarding the proposed legislation to 5:00 pm on Friday, August 21, 2026. This decision was made to provide stakeholders, including civil society organizations and professional bodies, with additional time to prepare and submit their contributions.

Gbajabiamila emphasized the importance of broad consultation and informed perspectives in developing the National Policing Bill, which aims to establish a comprehensive framework for effective policing in Nigeria. The proposed legislation will address critical issues such as funding, command structures, recruitment standards, and accountability mechanisms.

The Working Group encourages legal practitioners, security sector professionals, and the public to utilize this extended period for submissions. Upon completion of its work, the group will present a final draft of the National Policing Bill for legislative processing.
