NAWOJ Condemns Insecurity in North Central Nigeria

The National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has strongly condemned the persistent killings and rising insecurity in North Central Nigeria, particularly in Plateau, Benue, and Kwara states. In a press statement from the zonal secretariat, Comrade Juliana Os Ofoku, following a virtual meeting of the Zonal Executive Council (ZEC) on Tuesday, expressed deep concern over the alarming rate of violent crime in the region.

The statement highlighted recurring attacks in Plateau State, kidnappings along Kogi axis, and ongoing killings in Benue and Kwara states. NAWOJ emphasized that protecting lives and property is primarily the government's responsibility and called on federal and state governments, as well as security agencies, to adopt proactive, intelligence-driven strategies to address these security challenges.

They urged for the swift arrest and diligent prosecution of perpetrators to ensure justice and deter future occurrences. Additionally, NAWOJ called for improved collaboration among governors in the region and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as better equipping of security agencies with modern tools and technology to enhance intelligence gathering.
