NBA and AJJF Condemn Abduction of Kebbi Judge

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the Africa Judges & Jurists Forum (AJJF) condemned the abduction of Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court, which occurred during the early hours of July 26, 2026, at his residence in Bunza Local Government Area. Both organizations described the incident as a serious assault on the judiciary and Nigeria's constitutional democracy.

The NBA, led by President Mazi Afam Osigwe, emphasized that judicial officers must perform their duties without fear of intimidation or threats. They urged Nigerian security agencies to utilize all available resources for Justice Bunza's immediate and unconditional release and called for improved security measures for judicial officers nationwide.

The AJJF, represented by Chairperson Justice Professor Oagile Bethuel Key Dingake, expressed solidarity with Justice Bunza and condemned the attack as undermining constitutional democracy. Both organizations stressed the importance of protecting judicial officers to maintain the integrity of the judiciary.
