Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya Elected NBA President

Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya has been elected as the new president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), marking a historic moment as she becomes the second woman to lead the association. She succeeded Afam Osigwe following the conclusion of the NBA's 2026 national election.

Badejo-Okusanya emerged victorious by securing 47.18% of the votes, totaling 26,106 votes cast, defeating two senior advocates of Nigeria. The election was conducted under close scrutiny, with concerns raised regarding the electoral process; however, the NBA proceeded with the election, which was supervised by the electoral committee.

In her acceptance remarks, Badejo-Okusanya pledged to strengthen the legal profession, uphold the rule of law, and promote reforms aimed at improving legal practice and justice delivery across Nigeria. She expressed gratitude to the members of the association for their confidence in her leadership and described her victory as a significant milestone for the NBA, reflecting growing support for inclusive leadership within the legal profession.

She is expected to formally assume office at the association's annual general conference later this year.
