NBA Calls for Security Reforms Amid Plateau Violence

The four branches of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Plateau State condemned the increasing violence in the state and called for urgent constitutional, security, and judicial reforms. During a press conference in Jos, they described the attacks in Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Bokkos local government areas as a serious failure of the state's duty to protect its citizens.

The NBA noted that terrorists have attacked communities even during curfews, resulting in deaths among residents and vigilantes. They praised President Bola Tinubu for his support of state police creation and urged the federal government to sponsor constitutional amendments to allow state governors greater control over security.

Additionally, they called for improved welfare and equipment for security personnel, enhanced border surveillance, and the establishment of a military formation in the Pai River Game Reserve, which they claimed has become a refuge for bandits and terrorists.
