NCAA Investigates Syndicate for License Racketeering

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has commenced an investigation into a syndicate allegedly involved in the racketeering of aircraft maintenance engineer licenses. A letter dated June 29, 2026, signed by Captain D.

Spiff on behalf of the NCAA's Director General, revealed that the syndicate was suspected of collecting between N500,000 and N700,000 for licenses that should only cost N50,000. The NCAA discovered irregularities in the application process and documentation related to the issuance of maintenance engineer licenses, specifically AMEL number 6520.

The authority has given a seven-day notice for individuals to submit relevant documents and evidence of payments. Additionally, the investigation has uncovered that some pilots have allegedly renewed their licenses for private jet operations without completing mandatory simulator training, which is required annually.

Michael Achimugu, the NCAA's Director of Public Affairs, confirmed the ongoing investigation into these irregularities.
