This event follows Ajayi's impressive performance at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, where he defeated Seville with a time of 9.84 seconds, while Seville finished at 9.89 seconds.

Ajayi holds a 2-1 advantage in their head-to-head matchups, having previously edged Seville in the heats during the Tokyo World Championships, clocking 9.88 seconds to Seville's 9.93 seconds. However, Seville claimed the world title with a personal best of 9.77 seconds.
