NCAA Investigates Syndicate for Aircraft License Fraud

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has commenced an investigation into a syndicate suspected of racketeering in the issuance of aircraft maintenance engineer licenses. The investigation, initiated following a letter dated June 29, 2026, reveals that the syndicate allegedly charged between N500,000 and N700,000 for licenses that should officially cost N50,000.

The NCAA discovered irregularities in the application process and documentation related to license issuance, including payment concerns. The investigation also highlights issues with pilot licensing, particularly regarding private jet operations, where pilots reportedly renewed licenses without mandatory simulator training.

The NCAA has given a seven-day window for individuals to submit relevant documents or face action without their statements being considered. Michael Achimugu, the NCAA's Director of Public Affairs, confirmed the ongoing investigation and the serious safety gaps identified in the pilot licensing renewal process.
