Nigerian Aviation Authority Summons Overland Airways Over Pre-2026 VAT Charges

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned Overland Airways over Value Added Tax (VAT) charges on air tickets purchased before the new tax regime implemented in 2026. Overland Airways argued that aviation tax should apply when tickets are flown, not when purchased.

However, the NCAA maintains that the new tax law overrides previous arrangements unless explicitly stated otherwise. The airline has been directed to seek clarification on whether VAT applies retrospectively to tickets bought before 2026 but flown afterward.

Additionally, Air Peace's CEO raised concerns about the potential impact of the new tax provisions on airfares in Nigeria, urging government intervention to protect the aviation sector. Overland Airways is expected to comply with the directive to refund affected passengers and respond to the NCAA within ten days.
