NCAA Orders Overland Airways to Refund VAT Charges

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued a directive to Overland Airways, mandating the airline to refund passengers for tickets purchased before January 1, 2026. This decision was announced by Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA.

The directive comes in response to complaints from passengers who were charged Value Added Tax (VAT) on tickets purchased in 2025, which should not have been applied according to the law. The NCAA emphasized that Overland Airways is obligated to comply with the law and rectify the situation by initiating refunds.

Achimugu also urged the Nigerian Revenue Service to clarify its position on the issue. The NCAA's intervention aims to ensure transparency and cooperation from Overland Airways, particularly after public complaints highlighted the burden of additional charges on elderly passengers.
